Flag person killed in Langley

A 52-year-old traffic control person was killed when he was hit by a pick-up truck while working in a construction zone in Langley, B.C.

An 85-year-old Abbotsford man has been charged in the fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Feb 25. Langley Mounties said the man was driving without a valid licence and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Employer cited

A Calgary condo developer has been cited for 21 violations of Alberta’s occupational health and safety code after the recent death of a worker. Randy Williams, 47, was killed when a wall of dirt collapsed on Feb. 14 .

Four of the the citations against Perera Development Group, which is building the condo project at James McKevitt Road and Shawnee Gate S.W., were related to the steepness, shoring and “control” of a 30-metre wall of dirt.

The City of Calgary started a geotechnical investigation that will determine the stability of the soil. The Peace Lutheran Church, which is perched above the construction site, remains closed as a precaution.
