British Columbia government offers $1.4 million to Industry Training Authority
The B.C. government is providing $1.4 million in funding to the Industry Training Authority (ITA) to help increase Aboriginal and youth participation in industry training and apprenticeship programs.
The funding will be shared between the Career Education Society (CES) ($1.1 million) and Skills Canada BC ($300,000). CES will try to boost participation among grades 10-12 students in the Secondary School Apprenticeship program. School districts will be eligible to receive funding of between $15,000 and $40,000 to encourage students to continue their training after high school and become certified in their chosen fields. Skills Canada will provide bursaries of up to $5,000 to Aboriginal students who wish to attend a recognized pre-apprenticeship training program.
