Saskatoon begins rebuilding northern power line

The Saskatchewan government aims to improve electrical service in the province, by starting a multi-million dollar project to rebuild a power line.

SaskPower is starting work on a $15.6 million project to rebuild the 72-kilovolt (kV) power line serving areas north of Prince Albert, along the corridor to La Ronge.

The project was supposed to start last year, but there was trouble obtaining materials.

The rebuilt transmission line will run 74 kilometres from the Timber Cove switching station to the Tracey Road Regulator, about 17 kms north of Weyakwin.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.

The new line will be connected to a 105 km transmission line at the Timber Cove switching station. This line was previously completed and energized in October 2003. SaskPower received conditional approval from Saskatchewan Environment to proceed with the project after public involvement in the line routing process and conducting environmental studies along the route.
