Governments announce funds for East Courtenay Reservoir

Drinking water in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island is going to get better.

The federal and British Columbia governments announced that they were making a $2.6 million investment to improve the drinking water supply in the Comox Valley Regional District. The funding will go toward twinning the East Courtenay Reservoir to double the region’s available water supply.

New water level monitoring equipment will also be installed. The improvements will maintain water quality and meet the region’s water demands for about 2,300 new households over the next 20 years. Most of the funding will come from the Canada-B.C. Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund. It supports communities with fewer than 250,000 people and helps minimize the costs to taxpayers of local infrastructure upgrades or new construction projects.
