Wal-Mart Canada announces construction plans for 2008
MISSISSAUGA, ON
Wal-Mart Canada today announced that the company’s annual expansion plans include building, renovating or relocating more than 25 stores. Through these projects, the retailer says it will create more than 5,000 trades jobs.
By January 31, 2009, the company expects to complete 25-27 projects, including new supercentres, new discount stores, and expanding or relocating existing discount stores as supercentres.
About 14 of the projects will be new stores and approximately eight will be existing discount stores expanded to become supercentres. Two existing discount stores are expected to close and be relocated to new sites in the same markets, and then re-open as supercentres.
The retailer says it will continue to specify more environmentally friendly features for its stores, including more efficient lighting, heating and ventilation systems; temperature management; greater waste control; and improved and eliminated materials.
