Fort McMurray, AB
Plans get underway for Saline Creek Plateau and Parsons Creek communities
The process for the development of two new Fort McMurray communities, Saline Creek Plateau and Parsons Creek, has begun.
The Alberta government is working with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and various local groups to develop serviced lots for residential, commercial and community uses.
The developments are intended to house approximately 40,000 people on 4,000 acres of land.
The communities will be complemented by schools, health clinics, recreational facilities, parks and other community services. The government will look at community designs that are environmentally friendly with respect to land, water and energy use.
Expression of Interest for a possible public-private partnership as an innovative approach to provide a “Master Planned” community for Saline Creek Plateau to support approximately 20,000 people is underway.
The Expression of Interest is the first phase of the procurement process. Timelines for the design, tender and construction schedules have yet to be determined.
