Bantrel Construction employee dies in accident at Petro-Canada refinery

A 48-year-old man seriously injured in a construction accident at the Petro-Canada refinery has died.

A worker with Bantrel Construction was moving a piece of equipment known as a zoom boom – similar to a fork lift – from one location to another at the Sherwood Park refinery. The machine rolled and went into the ditch, while the man was thrown from the vehicle.

The man died in hospital about a week later.

A stop-work order was issued on the equipment as investigators piece together what went wrong.
