Letter to the Editor

Treatment of foreign workers should be a wake-up call for Canadian people

To the editor,
This letter is about the story, Unpaid foreign workers walk off the job at Golden Ears Bridge project, which appeared on the Journal of Commerce website on September 24, 2008.

People, where have you been?

This was brought to the attention of everyone a few years ago, then again in the tunnel for the Seymour/Capilano Water Filtration Plant last year.

Does the government think they can just keep abusing people’s rights?

Do they think no one cares or is it pure greed? Is it the same thing we see in third-world countries when big companies come in with the blessing of the government, undercut local contractors then hire people at sub-standard wages and take the profit back home with them?

Wake up, people. Unless, that is, you want to be in a third-world country.
