Rocks tumble onto Sea-to-Sky highway again

There was another rockslide on the Sea to Sky highway. The small slide happened early on November 12, 2008.

“A small volume of material, about 10 cubic metres, came down just north of Lions Bay and blocked the north bound lane,” said Dave Crebo, communications director with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. “There were no injuries or damage as a result of the rockslide, but traffic was reduced to a single lane alternating traffic for a half an hour.”

Graders were brought in to remove the material and Peter Kiewit brought in a geotechnical engineer to test the stability of the slope. The ministry is waiting for the results of the engineer’s report.

A huge land slide left a massive pile of rock and debris just north of Porteau Cove on July 29, burying a nearby railway line and two lanes of Highway 99 that connect Vancouver with Squamish and Whistler.
