Pomerleau wins contract to build air force training centre

Pomerleau Inc. has been awarded a $40.5 million federal government contract for the construction of the Air Mobility Training Centre at 8 Wing CFB Trenton, one of the largest and busiest air force bases in Canada.

"This new facility will provide excellent training conditions and long-term support for military personnel at 8 Wing Trenton," said Defence Minister Peter MacKay.

The project will see construction of a new 17,000-square-metre facility that will house the equipment and personnel required to train operators and maintainers of the C-130J Hercules aircraft.

Construction of the hangar is expected to begin later this year and completion is anticipated for summer 2012.

The renewal of the tactical airlift fleet enables troops to conduct safer and more effective operations at home and abroad, the government said in a news release.
