Letter to the editor

Shouldn’t Canadians have a say in how our tax dollars are spent?

Re: Ironworkers outraged after Quebec company wins B.C. Place Stadium roof contract (JOC, Nov. 4)

I think that David Klassen and his letter in response to this article (Time to stop crying over BC Place contract) just shows that ignorance is bliss.

I find it disturbing that more people do not have a problem with this contract going to Canam of Quebec.

It’s not just the jobs that will not be going to people here in B.C., but the fact that hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars will be leaving the province and possibly the country as well.

Is it possible to find out how much of the manufacturing will actually be done in Canada?

How much will be built at their facilities in India or Japan or at one of their other partner sites say in China and shipped here for assembly?

I have to wonder if these same people that say we should just sit back and stop complaining would just sit back and enjoy being on employment insurance knowing their jobs were being shipped out of province or overseas.

Should we not have a say in where our tax dollars are being spent?
