Worker survives crane rollover in Victoria

A construction worker is lucky to be alive after the crane he was operating rolled over into an excavated hole in Victoria, B.C. last week.

Firefighters took the unidentified worker to hospital on July 27.

The certified crane operator was heading down a dirt ramp into a construction site at the Jehovah Witnesses’ Kingdom Hall, which is located at the corner of Shelbourne and Ryan streets.

The operator was impaled on a metal rod and trapped inside the crane.

It took several hours for the fire department to get the man out.

The worker was breathing and conscious when he was loaded into the ambulance, but the extent of his injuries is not known.

The man was working as a volunteer on the construction of the building when the incident happened.
