Saskatchewan mayors want cash

Urban leaders in Saskatchewan want help with building costs, but the premier is suggesting there won't be any more money for now.

Mayors and councillors with the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association say investment in infrastructure is essential to growth.

Association vice-president Jim Scarrow, who is also the mayor of Prince Albert, said improving roads, sewers, water systems and bridges produces a good economic return.

Premier Brad Wall and cabinet ministers were given the message at the association’s annual convention in Regina.

Wall told the group that the provincial budget hasn’t been finalized.

But, he added, they shouldn’t budget for any more infrastructure funding over and above revenue-sharing that is already in place.
