Site for new correctional facility selected

The Province of British Columbia has announced a new Okanagan correctional centre will be built in the Senkulmen Enterprise Park on Highway 97, a site proposed by the Osoyoos Indian Band.

The industrial park was selected for the 360-cell facility after an evaluation of two sites proposed by two bands.

Considerations included project costs, zoning, environmental impacts, accessibility to major transportation routes and the projected completion date.

The construction cost of the facility will be $200 million and timelines and a projected completion date will follow development of a comprehensive business case during the ongoing planning phase of the project.

The project will be assessed for procurement as a public-private partnership.
