Calgary Airport Tunnel
JESSICA PATTERSON
The Airport Trail tunnel in Calgary, Alberta is taking shape. The tunnel will be 620 metres long and will accommodate six lanes of traffic, as well as a potential transitway.
The city recently turned over the first piece of the trail to the airport authority, so work can begin on a new runway over the tunnel. Each tunnel section requires 850 cubic metres of concrete and a total of 50 concrete sections will be used.
The Construction management team is a joint venture between PCL, Parsons and Dufferin. It is slated for completion by May 2014 and will cost about $294 million.
Contractors on the project include B.A.T. Construction Ltd., Black and McDonald Limited, Bluebird Contracting Services, Broda Group of Companies, Custom Electric Ltd., Harris Steel Services Limited, Inland Concrete Limited, Kidco Construction Ltd., Modern Niagara Alberta Inc., North American Rock & Dirt Inc., Twin City Clarage Inc., Zerodraft Calgary, Terracon Geotechnique Ltd., North American Caisson Ltd., Davis Foundation Spray Ltd. and Gescan – a division of Sonepar Canada Inc.
