Unique cost sharing used for road improvements

REGINA

Three new lanes on Highway 1 east of Regina are the result of a cost sharing project between the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure and Redhead Equipment.

“This partnership with Redhead Equipment is an example of how our province is addressing the challenges of growth,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said in a news release.

“We’re determined to move forward on building the Saskatchewan Advantage as our communities continue to grow at a record pace.

“This is a smart, pragmatic and cost-effective partnership for the people of Saskatchewan.”

The $780,000 in safety improvements resulted in one acceleration lane and two turning lanes near Gravel Pit Road.

The lanes were already slated for safety improvements.

Redhead Equipment approached the ministry with a cost-sharing agreement that saw Redhead Equipment contribute $390,000, saving Saskatchewan taxpayers 50 per cent of the projects value.

This project will improve safety for the employees and customers of Redhead, while addressing immediate busy highway traffic in the area.

New work added to a recent highway construction update includes milling and paving on Highway 1 west of Gull Lake and raising a section of Highway 4 south of Biggar.
