Training seats

The B.C. government is providing about $1.7 million in one-time funding to 10 public post-secondary institutions for skills training to prepare workers for jobs throughout the province.

The funding will create 360 seats in foundation training programs, which provide trainees with the basic knowledge and skills needed for entry into a particular occupation.

Students receive credit for the first level of apprenticeship training in the specific field by the Industry Training Authority (ITA) once they have successfully completed the foundation program.

Students may apply the credits earned in a foundation program for entrance into other programs, or, with agreement from their employer, obtain an apprenticeship.

Full-time foundation programs can vary from 13 weeks to 10 months in duration.
