Saskatchewan bridge reopens

Effective Dec. 21, a damaged river crossing in northern Saskatchewan once again started taking a full load of traffic.

The Diefenbaker Bridge, over the North Saskatchewan River in Prince Albert, was partially closed after a cracked girder was discovered in August 2011.

Major repairs were finished by last December, but weight restrictions were imposed and further inspections led to 300 spot repairs that meant the closure of two lanes.

City manager Robert Cotterill says the reopening will be a relief for drivers, especially truckers carrying wide loads.
