Crane fine
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) fined a crane rental company about $10,000 for driving an overweight vehicle on city streets.
Two members of the EPS Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit spotted a crane driving in the Southside industrial area at about 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2012.
The crane was allegedly overweight, weighing 46,750 kilograms, well over the maximum allowable weight of 22,000 kg.
A fine of nearly $10,000 was levied under the Commercial Vehicle Dimensions and Weight Regulation of the Traffic Safety Act, for operating a self-propelled vehicle on a highway with a gross weight exceeding 22,000 kg.
This heavy machinery is not meant to be driven on roadways or bridges in the city.
