B.C. housing starts fall

B.C. was among the areas of Canada where urban housing starts fell in December - but, overall, experts believe the housing construction market is holding its own.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation said the pace of housing starts slowed slightly last month, compared with November and B.C., the Prairies and Quebec saw dips in urban construction.

According to CMHC, there were just more than 16,000 actual starts in all sectors across Canada last month, putting the country on a pace to build nearly 198,000 units on an annual basis.

That was a slight decline from the setting in November, but still higher than the 195,000 units that economists expected.
