Regina council approve stadium funding model

The funding model and preliminary design for a new home for the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders has been approved by Regina city council.

The city’s executive committee recently voted 10 to one in favour of the $278 million project.

The city’s portion will be $73 million, the Riders will kick in $25 million, while the province will contribute an $80 million grant, in addition to a $100 million loan.

The approval will likely mean property tax increases for residents.

There were 17 presentations to council before the vote was held.

Some opposed the project, calling it the wrong moral choice.

The Saskatchewan Taxpayers Advocacy Group also demonstrated outside city hall.
