VIDEO: COCA president Grant McMillan on enforcing orders for workers

Grant McMillan is the president of the Council of Construction Associations (COCA), and he recently dropped by the Journal of Commerce to give his views on issuing orders against not only employers who have violated health and safety regulations, but also workers who have done so.

McMillan proposed working with the provincial government and with WorkSafeBC to ensure that when workers are properly trained and supervised and violations still occur, enforcement of penalties is initiated.

McMillan also said where workers violate rules they should be penalized in the same manner as employers, with financial penalties and fines. He added these practices are in place in Ontario and Saskatchewan, and that he thinks this approach will further reduce both the cost and frequency of workplace injuries.
