Skills Training at BCIT

WARREN FREY

A student shows off his skills during the grand reopening of the welding building at the B.C. Institute of Technology's Burnaby campus.

The facility underwent a $2.7 million upgrade that includes the replacement of the building's ventilation and HVAC systems with a high-efficiency, variable-speed, on-demand system that reduces energy consumption and improves air quality.

The new system uses sensors to recognize when welding equipment is in use.

Students position telescopic arms immediately above their workspace so that air is extracted in a concentrated and localized fashion.
