In this week's preview, we look at some of the stories we'll be covering in the Journal of Commerce for the week of February 10th, 2014.

The United States government has released a highly anticipated report on the Keystone XL pipeline project. The report concluded that he pipeline project will not substantially contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Permission to build the pipeline was previously denied by U.S. president Barack Obama in 2012.

Digital Media Editor Warren Frey has a story about the eighth International Open Shop Conference and Bizcon 2014, both of which will take place in Hawaii from Feb. 11 to Feb. 13. Check www.journalofcommerce.com for blogs and daily videos and follow @JOC_Canada for tweets from the conference.

Staff writer Richard Gilbert has a story about a run-of-river hydroelectric project located northwest of Vancouver clearing regulatory hurdles. The Narrows Inlet Hydro Project will consist of three hydro-electric generating stations, a collector substation and related transmission lines.

Correspondent Ian Harvey has a story about an Alberta steel fabricator creating aesthetically pleasing components for projects such as the Morinville Civic Hall and Community Library.

Stephen Bauld has a column on testing the marketplace with different types of specifications, and this week’s feature video is an interview with Merit Contractors Association president Stephen Kushner, who is also one of the main organizers of the Eighth International Open Shop Conference.
