| Note: | Project is currently going through the regulatory approval process with the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB). Detailed engineering and construction schedules to be confirmed upon approval. Further update in late 2013. |
| Project: | Kirby Expansion Project will see the expansion of the following two recently-approved and nearby in situ oil sands projects: Canadian Natural Resources 54,000 bbl/d Kirby In Situ oil Sands Project; and Enerplus Resources Fund's 10,000 bbl/d Kirby Oil Sands Project Phase 1 (recently acquired by CNRL). This will increase the combined, approved 55,000 bbld/ to a total of 140,000 bbl/d and this proposed expansion will occur in three phases. Scope of work includes construction and drilling of additional well pads and the use of Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology for the recovery of bitumen from the McMurray and Wabiskaw oil sands formations; additonal steam production, bitumen processing and water treatment capacity at the two Central Processing Facilities in the two previously approved projects; and required infrastructure and facilities such as access roads, groundwater supply wells, wastewater disposal wells and associated buried groundwater/wastewater pipelines, electrical power distribution lines, above-ground pipelines, and borrow areas. 72 new surface well pads will be constructed. |
