Budget includes $7.7 billion in infrastructure stimulus funding
The 2010 federal budget charts a path for job growth by staying the course mapped out by the Conservatives’ stimulus plan while limiting government spending, Canada’s finance minister says.
Western Canada critical of Eastern focus in budget
The 2010 federal budget focuses on stimulus spending in eastern Canada, which doesn’t sit will with some in Western Canada’s construction industry. “From a Western Canadian perspective, it seems the budget is heavily concentrated in central and eastern Canada,” said Bill Stewart, vice president of the Merit Contractor Association in Alberta.
No extension of stimulus project deadline concerns Canadian Construction Association
With no new infrastructure funding for Canada’s construction industry to sink its shovels into in Budget 2010, a concern still remains for stimulus projects currently underway, says the Canadian Construction Association.
Canadian Construction Association taking wait and see approach to Red Tape Commission
Ottawa is looking to slash through bureaucracy by establishing a Red Tape Commission. The government wants the commission to review federal regulations to help reduce compliance burdens and unnecessary regulations.
Stimulus spending tap shuts off March 2011
The federal government is standing firm on seeing through the second year of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which includes $19 billion this year to be complemented by $6 billion from provinces, municipalities and other partners.
