AirTest receives $748,000 blanket order from leading greenhouse company

DELTA, BC, Feb. 4 /CNW/ - AirTest Technologies (TSXV: AAT) announced today that it has received a $748,000 blanket order to be fulfilled over the next 16 months for carbon dioxide (CO(2)) sensors and controls for a major manufacturer of greenhouse related controls and supplies. In greenhouses the CO(2) level is controlled to optimize certain cycles of growth for a wide variety of crops.

The purchase order involves two products. The first product is a CO(2) module that will be integrated into an existing control already manufactured and sold by the company. The first monthly shipment of this module has just occurred and will be ongoing over the next year. For the second product, Airtest engineers designed a unique two-component controller that includes a wall mount sensor and a separate plug in controller that can activate a CO(2) generator in the greenhouse when required. This new design offers significant cost and safety advantages over the previous product marketed by the greenhouse company. Monthly shipments of this second product will begin in March of this year. According to Mike Schell, VP of Business Development, "These products are a result of months of close collaboration with our customer to determine the best design to meet their cost, operational and performance goals." Schell added, "It is also very satisfying to us that we managed to win this business away from a major Fortune 100 competitor. This is a trend we hope to continue."

Total monthly revenue for the company is expected to increase by approximately $60K per month once the company begins shipment of both products, which should occur in the second quarter of this year.

In addition to the greenhouse application of CO(2) measurement, AirTest's self-calibrating CO(2) sensors are used to save energy in buildings by regulating outside air ventilation based on the actual number of people in a space. This ensures that only enough outside air is heated or cooled to meet the immediate needs of occupants. Much of the demand for this type of sensor is driven by the growing interest in making buildings energy efficient, an important part in creating green and sustainable buildings. For example the LEED building certification program operated by the US Green Building Council provides certification points for including CO(2) measurement and control to ensure good indoor environmental quality while at the same time saving energy. CO(2) ventilation control can represent a simple but highly effective way for almost all buildings to reduce energy use while ensuring good indoor air quality for occupants.

About AirTest: AirTest Technologies (www.airtesttechnologies.com) is a Green-Tech company specializing in sensors that improve commercial building operating efficiency and at the same time create energy savings. These sensors are all based on technical innovations developed in the last ten years, and comprise a growing second wave of energy saving technologies that will make a significant contribution to the Sustainable Buildings Program. AirTest offers its products to leading-edge building owners, contractors and energy service companies targeting the buildings market. AirTest also provides energy cost reduction solutions to building equipment and controls manufacturers who incorporate AirTest sensor components in their products.
